Old Skool - 2009 Old Skool is one of those band's that's hard to pin down. While the easy way out would be to label them a simple cover band and move on, there is something else there that makes this band worth another look. So many elements are entered into this band. It's charm could lie in the diversity of it's players, be it in instrument, attitude or background. But then again it could be the unity of it's players, each feeding off the others performance. It could be the members intense love of music, respect and admiration of each others talents and skills. Or maybe it's just magic. Whatever the reason an Old Skool show is a mixture of some of the best music of the past 50 years mixed with incredible crowd chemistry and musicianship.
BAND MEMBERS:
Lynda is what you would call a "Late bloomer". She has been singing all her life... ... In the car, in the shower, to her three children, at the drop of a hat, or more often, a hockey puck. She recently decided to share her voice with the general public and became a founding member of "Old Skool". Born and raised in Montreal, the eighth (or final, (thank goodness), as her Mother would say) child of a very musical family. Lynda has benefitted from the trickle down effect, absorbing a love of melody and rhythm that shows in her performance. Lynda will be ready when "Geriatric Idol" begins! Murray has been playing music since the 70's. The bug to be in a band hit again once he started restoring his original, vintage drum kit. He adds to his collection regularly and still needs "one more set!" Murray's solid playing with Dave and Lynda laid the original foundation for "Old Skool". Since Murray seemingly knows nearly everyone, he has been appointed to the unpaid position of band manager and booking agent! Danny is a noted bass guitar player and singer. Born and raised in Saskatchewan, he started playing Rock & Roll at an early age. Danny turned "pro" soon after, moved to B.C. and formed the group "The Impalas". His career took him to Calgary where he worked with many bands most notably, "The Key Three", "Live Coverage", "The Kicking Horse Band" and " The Silver Creek Band". Danny has performed on stage in clubs and on TV throughout Canada and in the United States. His extensive resume ended the search for a permanent bass player and he becomes "Old Skool's" newest classmate. Danny has a wonderful enthusiasm and stage presence - it's highly obvious that he enjoys his work! Otis - Keyboard / Piano Otis has been playing
keys since the age of nine ( a long time ago ! ).
He has played many kinds of music including country (Red
Hot Burritos ) blues ( Peter - Guitar, Vocals Peter started playing guitar at 17. He played in a duet and trio for 3 years in the Regina area and in 1989 picked up the bagpipes. As a "piper" he has performed in parades & shows throughout Saskatchewan, BC, Nova Scotia, PEI, Germany, North Dakota, Montana and recently in Las Vegas. Peter has a great love for music and following his retirement, picked up the guitar again and decided to "go for it"! Watch for the guy with the big smile (sometimes wearing a kilt !) and you will see that he enjoys what he is doing.... making music ! Neil - Guitar & Vocals Neil has been singing since 3 and playing guitar since 13, with a strong background of blues/classic rock/americana. He's the kind of guy that believes in just plugging in, turning up and playing hard...doesn't care what he is doing, as long as it is playing. What the other band members joke about is the fact that he instills a bit of youth to level out the age medium.
